Research Expo - Final Project Presentations

The Research Expo, on our final day of COSMOS, showcased the final projects of our cluster.  Every student applied what they learned throughout the four weeks.  Teams of two proposed their own final project idea.  They ranged from unique AppInventor apps, Scribbler Robot algorithms, and Arduino projects.  Some combined Scribblers and Arduinos.  The faculty was extremely impressed with the effort, work and learning that was exhibited.  Below are the final presentations.

Arduino Projects

Friday we showed off our Arduino projects.  Servos, proximity sensors, and remote controls were some of the items we incorporated into them.  We infused our technical knowledge with our creativity to come up with a host of different final products.  Check them out!

Eric and Sravya - "Ballerina"

Rachel and Brandon - "Mickey Ferris Wheel"

Khelsey and Brian N. - "Disco Ball"

Curtis and Marco - "Kick the Balls"

Sam and Po - "Soccer"

Andrew and Brian C. - "Don Quixote"

Sonika and Finian - "Chase the Carrot"

Claire and Mauri - "SpongeBob"

Charlotte and Adrian - "Hypnotic Lollypop"

Media Day

This past Monday (July 22) we had some special visitors.  Qualcomm came to check out our work, like did to them last week. Two local news stations, KUSI and KNSD (our NBC affiliate) came by to interview us.  They spoke to several students, Mrs. Miranda (our Teacher Fellow) and Professor Kastner (our lead faculty), took pictures and recorded video footage.  KUSI broadcast live feeds and had our entire cluster wave to end their morning broadcast.

KUSI aired the piece on us during their 6:00 PM and 10:00 PM broadcasts as well!  If you missed it (or don't get KUSI) here's a link: COSMOS on KUSI News.

Here are a few pictures from the day!

Qualcomm Field Trip

On Monday, July 15, we visited Qualcomm.  Our hostess Nicole brought along some college interns to show us around.  We had a chance to talk to them about their schools (they were from all over the U.S.) and the differences between Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.  We had a great time and learned a lot touring the manufacturing floor, the Qualcomm museum and more!  Below are some pictures.

Scribbler RoboArt Presentations/Demos

Our first project with Scribblers was to maneuver it to draw anything of our choice.  We learned a lot about programming in Python in doing so.  The "People's Choice" award went to Brian C. and Curtis for their "Domo".  The "Faculty Choice" went to Sonika and Brian N. for their "Petronas Towers" with an honorable mention to Marco and Mauri's "Computers in Everyday Life" artwork.

Below are our presentations with demos.

Mauri and Marco - "Computers in Everyday Life"

Rachel and Eric - "Mickey Logo"

Finian and Cameron - "Best Laid Plans... a letter"

Sonika and Brian N. - "Petronas Towers"

Po and Andres - "Nike Logo"

Sravya and Sam - "Two Flowers"

Charlotte and Brandon - "Sword and Stone"

Curtis and Brian C - "Domo"

Claire and Andrew - "One Up Mushroom"

Khelsey and Adrian - "Cube"

COSMOlympics time!

Friday evening was the annual COSMOlympics event.  Each cluster prepares a skit and cheer for the event.  Cluster 1 students performed amazingly and it was great fun watching them.  Watch how they applied our cluster's focus to their skit and cheer!
